Pasture-raised, grass-fed beef

What: Cows that have been raised on open pastures, eating grass with non-synthetic fertilized soil. These cows are not restricted to cages and should be roaming free.

Why: Do you want pesticides in your body? Do you want unhealthy cows that have been raised in conditions where they step in their own poop? Beef that are marked pasture-raised and grass-fed are the healthiest for your body. Beef not marked as grass-fed most likely means they’ve been fed with corn or soy, which is destructive for your gut over time.

Aside from what type of beef you should choose, beef, like any meat, provides a great source of protein and iron. They also contain a compound called carnosine, which has anti-aging effects (source).
